Elder Law and Financial Services
These programs and services are designed for individuals or families who need professional assistance in navigating through the issues of aging and the financial aspects of healthcare and retirement. Government and private sector programs designed for the senior population are often confusing and complicated for the consumer for whom they are designed. Certain professionals and organizations take a focused approach in helping those that have questions or problems in these areas.
The purpose of these services is to help individuals or families in areas such as estate planning and administration, Medicare and Medicaid strategies, and assistance with Social Security and other retirement benefits. Elder care attorneys can assist with powers of attorney, medical care directives and other necessary legal and healthcare documents. However, elder care services provided by professionals are often far more encompassing than just financial areas. Some additional areas of assistance include protection against abuse, neglect, and fraud and support in areas such as housing or nursing home care.
These programs are administered by attorneys specializing in the issues of aging (elder law) or by professionals trained in specific areas of aging, such as healthcare social workers or other advocacy groups or organizations concentrating on a particular aspect of aging. Most professionals in individual practice provide private-pay services and will discuss fees and expenses upon initial consultation.
