An inside view from an amazing Stroke Survivor

One of many stroke survivors, Annie Bacon tells her story and has started a blog to be able to share with others. I met Annie Bacon several years ago.  She lives in Austin, TX and comes to the Kansas City area a few times a year to visit family.  When Annie is in town, she usually comes into our Stroke Rehabilitation program for some post-rehabilitation.

When Annie shows up, she has specific goals that she wants to work on while she's here.  One time it was getting up off the floor by herself, another time it was overcoming thresholds and steps; her latest was wanting to walk on the treadmill.  The determination, laughter and spirit of this woman never ceases to amaze me. She's really unstoppable!  Not only does she work extremely hard with her therapy, but her knowledge about her therapy and understanding the reason she's doing something is what I think makes it work for her.

Annie has created a blog where she tells her story, from inside her world.  If you are a stroke survivor you will appreciate and relate to this in so many ways.  If you're a medical professional, I hope you take the time to understand that there is life after a stroke.  What kind of life depends not only on the determination of the person, but the resources that they know about and the healthcare and attention that they receive.  Please take the time to give your patients options.

Please take time to visit Annie's site and blog:
