My take on the energy drink "business"

I went to a business meeting today. There were approximately 20 of us. Five people entered the room with energy beverages. None of them looked particularly awake or energetic. In fact, they all looked tired.

There is growing concern about the safety of energy beverages and the ingredients in them. Being that I have a pretty long background in the supplemental industry, there is good reason to be concerned.

Protect Your Eye Health

I had a friend ask me today about how to keep your eyes healthy. This article popped into my box just as we were talking. Maybe I am getting a bit of the luck of the Irish today?

Is weight loss your New Year's resolution?

With the new year just around the corner, many people are wondering about setting goals for the next year. I myself have thought the last month about what I really want to accomplish. I do believe without goals, many people would experience no personal growth. Goals are necessary. My suggestion is this: Really think about what you want and BE SPECIFIC. Saying you want to lose weight just isn't specific enough.

Fall Superfoods

I always get friends and clients that complain this time of year about having a boring diet. It can be difficult to maintain variety here in Missouri when all the "summertime" fruits and vegetables are no longer available. Often, it is just because they forget to incorporate our fall type vegetables and foods into their winter menus. Squashes, root crops, and apples are all abundant this time of year, as well as versatile. I have found almost any kind of vegetable (and some fruits) can be combined into a tasty soup.

KC Wine and Food Festival - AHA Fundraiser

A couple of weeks ago Eric and I attended the Kansas City Wine and Food Festival, a fundraiser for the American Heart Association.  It was a fun night with great food, wine, two silent auctions, and a live auction.

By the end of the night my feet were killing me.  Had to ditch the very stylish, very cute, but very painful shoes!

How DID I give up sugar?

I frequently get asked why and how I gave up sugar and sweet stuff.  I gave it up because it was causing issues with my immune system (it does for many people).  It was causing my joints to swell.  This leads to arthritis and joint issues as we age.  I personally do not want to follow in my families footsteps of knee replacements if I can avoid it.  But it was hard.  This article on yanking the sweet tooth from your diet is excellent.  I really couldn't have said it better myself:

Our Health Care System (This Should Make You Mad)

I have a solution that may help us start to fix the health care system.  I received my copy of Modern Healthcare in the mail today.  It happens to be the "compensation issue" where the magazine reveals the compensation leaders in the industry.  According to the magazine their report on corporate CEO pay "looks at the 10 largest companies by net revenue in three sectors--hospitals, insurers and specialty care providers--that file periodic reports with the U.S.

Try Eggplant!

When was the last time you tried a new food?  I got a home grown eggplant from my good friend Carolyn Nolin and she helped me find a new way to try a new food.  What is out there you haven't tried?  If it is eggplant, go to my provider page and look up the Fried Eggplant recipe.

Don't get stuck in a diet rut.  Seek out something to try this summer that you have never had.  You never know.  It may be your new favorite food!

Time for Sunscreen? Pick a Safer Brand!

I never can remember from year to year what sunscreen is the recommended one.  But, surprisingly, the list doesn't change much.  Need a primer?  Check out the article below:
